Tonight on CBC, Canadian Olympic hurdlers Perdita Felicien and Angela Whyte are set to appear on the Family Feud Canada’s celebrity week in the hope of winning money towards a charity that once supported Felicien and her family, which provides a safe and supportive environment for abused women and their children in Ontario’s Durham region.
The two Canadian sprinters will be joined by three other Canadian Olympians to complete their Family Feud team: Jennifer Salling (softball), Tabia Charles-Collins (long jump) and Pamphinette Buisa (rugby).
The team of summer Olympians will go up against a team of winter Olympians, made up of members from Canada’s women’s hockey team.
Felicien is a two-time world championship medallist in the 100m hurdles and holds the Canadian record in the event (12.46). She retired from athletics in 2013 to pursue a career in journalism and broadcasting. She later went on to join the CBC broadcast panel at the Pyeonchang Olympics in 2018 and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
In her recent book, My Mother’s Daughter, Felicien describes the support she and her mother and siblings received from The Denise House.
Whyte and Felicien both represented Canada at every world championship meet from 2001 to 2009 – the only two women in the 100m hurdles to do that during that span. During Whyte’s career, she won three straight medals in the 100m hurdles at three straight Commonwealth Games.
